Breastfeeding is one of the best things that you can do for your baby that has baby eczema, or atopic eczema. There are techniques of breastfeeding that can be used to bring incidences of baby eczema flare ups down to almost zero. In this article however, we look at how to tell if the foods you eat while breastfeeding are having an effect on your baby and his eczema.
Maybe you are well aware of the multiple benefits that breastfeeding your baby will play in terms of preventing atopic eczema and baby eczema flare ups. But the problem is that you have been breastfeeding your baby, but from time to time he still has an eczema flare up. There may be one of a number of things happening.
Maybe he has atopic eczema. In this case his condition is inherited rather than caused by an allergic reaction. If the condition is atopic eczema, your breastfeeding will help the condition, and there is not likely to be anything coming from the milk that is affecting him.
However, if is not atopic, (and you will want to know if it is or not, because the type of treatment will be dependant upon what is causing the problem,) you should begin checking to see if it is a dietary allergen problem.
Checking the diet when breastfeeding
First off, you will want to avoid letting your baby eat dairy products that include cow's milk, along with honey, seafood, wheat and soy products. If there is a problem and these foods are present you will want to get rid of them immediately.
So you have breastfed your baby, and he is still flaring up with eczema. The first thing you will need is a suspect food to test for. Once you have your suspect, you will make sure that you not eat that food for at least 3 weeks to give it time to get out of your system. Once this period of time has elapsed, you will eat that food again and watch for at least 4 days to see if there is a reaction. If there is a reaction, you have probably found your food. If there is no reaction you most likely do not have the guilty food yet, but you can test it again just to make sure.
Once you are satisfied about the safety of one food, then you can go ahead and test the next one.
